As posted to Blogs.wsj.com: “News that a legal battle has broken out over the controversial .xxx top level domain should come as no surprise to any observer of the troubled birth of the new Internet namespace.

Attempts to expand the Web’s naming system have long been an area of controversy. Expect that controversy to ramp up several gears as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the Net names regulator, is preparing for arguably the most dramatic shift in the Web’s history:  a deluge of as many as 1,000 new Top Level Domains (TLD) a year.”
