From smartcompany
Australia’s fledgling domain name trading sector has scored its highest ever sale, with sextoys.com.au sold for $25,500 on exchange site Netfleet.com.au.
The domain name trading market has been in existence for just over a year, since the Australian Domain Name Administrator allowed the buying and selling of domain names. There are two main companies providing an exchange for domain names: Netfleet and Domain Market Place.

If you are like many companies, you get emails regularly from Hong Kong or China that look like this:
We are a professional Internet consultant organization in Asia, which mainly deal with the global companies’ domain name registration and internet intellectual property right protection. Currently, we have a pretty important issue needing to confirm with your company. On 2009-03-23, we received an application formally; one person named “Jacques Tits” wanted to apply for the Internet brand “[YOUR BRAND] ” and some domain names through our body. During our preliminary investigation, we found that these domain names’ keyword and internet brand is identical with your trademark. I wonder whether you consigned “Jacques Tits” to register these domain names through us or not? Or is “Jacques Tits” your business partner or distributor in Asia? Currently, we have postponed this application of this company temporarily already. In order to deal with this issue better, please let the principal make a confirmation with me by telephone or email ASAP. In addition, I must state that we have time limited for one person or one company’s registration. It is just 15 days. If your company files doesn’t resent within the time limited. We will unconditionally authorize the application of “Jacques Tits”.
We asked Hong Kong resident and all around good guy, Joe Simone to fill us in from the front lines and to provide some insights on IP rights protection. Joe is a Partner, Baker & McKenzie, Beijing/Hong Kong.

As Wall Street experiences one dark day after another, it is a relief to see that not every market is completely in the toilet.
According to Domain Name Journal, INVEST.COM has sold for $1,015,000.00 through Great Domains.

New York is as they say, “a hell of a town”. The same could be said for Brooklyn this week as the Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C conference is underway at the Brooklyn Bridge Marriott in Brooklyn, New York.
The turn out is terrific and more diverse than a lot of domain events we have attended, which could in part be due to the awesome location and buffet of auctions that are taking place throughout the conference. We attended the Rick Latona auction which was called by auctioneer Matt Lowery, the 2008 World Livestock auctioneer champion. While livestock and domain name auctions do have their differences, the meeting of this low tech auction technique and high tech “merchandise” was entertaining, interesting and brought a breath of fresh air to the sometimes stale atmosphere of domain name auctions. It came as a surprise when the last item of that auction, STOCKBUYING.COM was sold for $2,300 USD. For shame, Wall Street attendees, for shame. Also in attendance signing his book “The Domain Game” is author and Wall Street Journal reporter David Kesmodel who has been bravely shaking hands with and answering the questions of domainers for the better part of the day.
The overall mood of the last few days has been optimistic. Both panel speakers and attendees feel that even though the US economy is in a period of uncertainty, the domain industry seems to be going strong. Panelist Mike “Zappy” Zapolin mentioned that this may be the “greatest moment” for domain holders looking to monetize as advertisers are scaling back on large campaigns and are in search of more bang for their buck. That bang, he believes will be found through web advertising. He also predicted that domainers may start selling more domain names during the economic down turn. Panelist Gregg McNair also had positive words for conference attendees despite being the victim of a traditional New York City mugging earlier in the week. He encouraged those in attendance to monetize “the crap” out of the domain names they hold as well as to “prepare yourselves for the future” and “diversify”. He left the crowd with perhaps the most optimistic words of the day “the world is still our oyster, there are plenty of opportunities.”
