- Take a short walk to the Moroccan themed Hotel Figueroa and take advantage of the beautiful Los Angeles weather at their outdoor patio bar.
- Grab lunch or dinner on 700 South Grand street at Bottega Louie, one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles.
- Travel back in time to 118 East 6th street to Varnish, a revival speakeasy located in Coles (one of the oldest restaurants in Los Angeles) for handcrafted artesian cocktails.

As we all know, no domains conference is all work. We have put together an off the beaten path city guide for DomainFest attendees who find themselves with a bit of free time or a few extra days to hang out in Santa Monica.
Our number one tip for visiting the Los Angeles area is RENT A CAR. Seriously. Rent a car.

We have exactly one month until ICANN 39 when the domain industry will invade a Colombian resort town famous for it’s time as a busy port during the gold and silver trades. The Cartagena meeting, beginning Saturday the 4th of December and ending Friday the 10th, is (with the exception of individual closed meetings) open to anyone who would like to attend. While it may feel as though many of the recent meetings have been a broken record, rehashing the same talking points without moving forward or yielding any tangible action, this meeting more than several of the last, is where we may see the beginning of some real, active change.
With the New gTLD program finally at a point where it looks like things might really be able to move forward, we are facing a meeting that will be extremely New gTLD heavy. It will also be an active meeting for the IDN fast track program and IPv6, which is beginning to make mainstream news. We will (hopefully) see tangible progress of several programs that have been forming over the last few years. The apparent finalization of the New gTLD program should also attract many new attendees bringing new blood and new ideas to the conference.
If you are interested in applying for a new gTLD, this is the 11th hour for forming relationships with the folks you need to contract to assist in the application process as well as anyone you may need to run your back end operations. If your company is concerned with how they might be affected by new gTLDs, this is your meeting. If you are not yet actively involved, the best way for you to judge if all this is for you is to physically be present. If for no other reason this meeting will be a strategic networking opportunity.

Many of you will be in town for the 2008 Targeted T.R.A.F.F.I.C conference in Brooklyn, New York and as we always say, travel is the best perk of the domain business. We have assembled a few suggestions for when you are roaming around the city not in session or auction. Our best tip for enjoying New York, especially if its your first time…get a subway pass and a map. There is no better way to explore the city and lets face it, cabs from Brooklyn to Manhattan get quite expensive.

There is no better place to spend the beginning of summer than Paris; the cathedrals, bookstalls along the Seine, the food…the ICANN conference. It’s that time of year folks, and this year’s big to do is being held in the city of lights. As we’ve said before business travel doesn’t have to be all meetings and air kisses and if it does, why not make it more palatable by moving your meeting to a cruise along the Siene river or perhaps the erotic museum. Okay, we don’t actually endorse trying to hold a meeting in the erotic museum but there are plenty of fantastic things to between obligations to capture a flavor of the western capital of romance.
The best way to see Paris is to be prepared for anything. The weather has a tendency to change without warning from perfectly sunny to unleashing the sort of rain that would make one wonder if they should start casually carrying a life preserver. To increase your chances of having an enjoyable outing in this stunning city remember to wear comfortable shoes and carry a small umbrella at all times. And now without further adieu: The NameSmash guide to Paris.
